We organized a DIY event called “Let’s Paint with shikkui!” and applied plaster together with a large group of people.
> YOUI+ DIY Event!! Plastering @ Reizensō
Since it was the first time many participants had ever touched shikkui, it was a fresh experience for everyone. I also met some people for the first time at this event, which led to some wonderful new connections. While the plaster itself felt a bit heavier than paint, it was very easy to work with since you didn’t have to mix it with water.

My very first impression was, “There’s no dampness!” Yuua Hia is located in the basement of Reizensō, a renovated museum that’s over 61 years old. Since the walls are concrete, I was worried about dampness, but by the very next day after the shikkui was applied, the dampness had completely disappeared. I think the soothing color and texture of the walls have created a very gentle space.

I’m really happy with the unique texture and character of the shikkui walls—something you just can’t get with regular paint. The special cans are so cute, too!! And I feel like every single texture on the walls, brimming with the individual personalities of the people who applied it, is cheering us on as we embark on our new project!!
