Our R&D (research and development) brings modern science to bear on a century's worth of accumulated knowledge in limestone and shikkui, taking on the challenge of creating new value. Guided by our core principle — "Grasping the essence, through touch and evidence" — we draw on a wide range of analytical equipment to uncover new possibilities, backed by solid evidence, spanning everything from preserving tradition to applications in cutting-edge industries.
We use the 4,000-ton ultra-high-pressure press—the same machine used to manufacture “LIMIX,” our non-fired shikkui ceramics—to form large sheets of fine ceramics. Compared to the currently mainstream CIP molding process, this approach can reduce raw material costs and manufacturing man-hours by improving yield.

As part of our efforts toward a sustainable society, one of our initiatives is the development of paints using soybean resin. It is said that approximately 7% of microplastics in the ocean come from flaking road marking paint; however, by using plant-derived soybean resin, we expect to improve biodegradability and reduce the flow of microplastics into the ocean. We are currently in the final stages of research aimed at commercialization.

Leveraging our industry-leading analytical expertise and testing equipment, honed through the development of our own products, we respond to the needs of corporate product development departments and construction firms — from consultation on test content to full testing on their behalf. We provide highly accurate test data with short lead times, supporting our customers' manufacturing and product development. For details on the tests we can perform, please see our detailed information page.
