O Residence, Fukuoka Prefecture—Detached House

We had already experienced the beauty of plastered walls firsthand when a plasterer applied shikkui to the main house. This time, we wanted to paint the guest house ourselves, so we were looking for DIY options when we came accross NURI².

At first, I couldn't quite get the hang of painting the fine details, but I was so happy to see myself gradually improving that I became completely absorbed in the process. Also, since I'd been taught about the product's benefits beforehand, I wasn't just painting mindlessly—I was able to visualize how it would be used in the future as I worked, which made it really enjoyable.

Since it was the first time many of the participants had ever touched plaster, it was a fresh and new experience for everyone. I also met some people for the first time at this event, which led to some wonderful new connections.

It was easy even for beginners to paint, and I was pleased that the finish turned out flatter than I expected. On the day of the event, we received help from our general customers, and while the painting session was a lot of fun, I was especially happy when a customer told me, “That was fun. I'll come visit once you open.”

The Sasahara Residence in Kahara Town

While the shikkui was drying completely, I was a bit bothered by the rather strong smell of the seaweed binder. However, there was absolutely no unpleasant chemical odor like you get with paint. It was great to see the children having so much fun participating—it made for a wonderful memory.

Katamonasu Hair Salon

Until I got the hang of it, I dropped materials and made a few mistakes, but once I got used to it, it was a lot of fun. We invited customers from the hair salon to participate, and it was great to see that each of them came up with their own creative ideas for the designs and put them into practice—and they all seemed to really enjoy themselves.
