Installation Precautions

・When mixing with sand, using too much sand will result in insufficient strength, so please adhere to the specified amount.

・Be sure to apply Shirokabe Sealer to unglazed tiles, glazed tiles, and highly absorbent substrates.

・Be mindful of temperatures during winter roof construction, as freezing damage is likely to occur.

・Once the surface dries, the topcoat will not adhere, so be sure to apply the topcoat immediately after the previous coat.

FAQ

Q.

How is “Kodai Shikkui for Roofs and Intermediate Coats” different from regular shikkui?

A.

This paste-like shikkui is made from a well-balanced blend of coarse susa (plant fiber) and aggregate, significantly enhancing its strength and weather resistance. It is optimized for plastering work on roofs, where high strength is required, as well as for use as an intermediate coat (base coat) on walls. Furthermore, because vegetable oil is pre-added, it offers excellent durability and water repellency.

Q.

It says it's for the intermediate coat, but can I use it as a topcoat as is?

A.

Yes, that is possible. Once dry, it develops a white, hard texture, so it can be used not only as roof plaster but also as a finishing material that highlights the natural texture of walls.
